In-person Classes for NC State Students

Registration for Fall classes begins on July 19 for NC State Students and on July 26 for the Public. Registration links will become active at 9:00am on those dates.

Session A Simple Charcuterie Board: Use a variety of woodshop machines and hand tools to create a unique custom cutting board great for serving or cutting food

Session BPendulum Pour Paintings: Spend an afternoon swinging paint from the ceiling and letting loose on canvas and poster board! Students are encouraged to bring additional items to paint on and should come to class prepared to get messy!

Session C Chaine Maille Bracelet: Learn the fundamentals of chain maille! Demonstration will show how to properly work with jump rings, jeweler’s pliers, and guide you through a modified Byzantine pattern. Your

handcrafted bracelet, in a color scheme of your choice, features both metal and rubber jump rings that make it extra easy to wear. Good hand-eye coordination is a must have for any registrant!

Session D – Turned Wood Pen: Come learn how to use a wood lathe and turn your very own custom wooden twist pen! Start with a block of beautiful hardwood and learn how to shape, sand, finish and assemble a one-of-a-kind handmade twist pen!

Session G – Handbuilding with Clay: Learn basic handbuilding techniques and design your very own coffee mug or bowl! Students will roll slabs, embellish surfaces with stamps or texture mats then carefully assemble by scoring, slipping and compressing. Pieces will be fired in the Crafts Center’s gas kiln!

Session I Fused Glass: Create unique designs by cutting and layering fusible glass into various patterns and shapes. Fire in a kiln to fuse [melt] the glass into one piece to create an ornament or suncatcher or slump-fuse into a mold to make a small plate or trinket dish.

Session K – Stained Glass Ornament: Foil and solder stained glass to create a simple holiday ornament.

Session L Enameled Copper Pendant and Earrings: Come ‘play’ with fire while learning to apply powdered glass to metal. In this short session, get a quick, hands-on lesson in basic hot enameling.

Session N – Bead and Wire Wrap Rings: Have you ever wanted to make your own rings out of beads, buttons, or “found objects” that were sentimental to you? Do you want to learn basic jewelry tool and wire-wrapping techniques? If so, this ring class is just for you!
