Break to MAKE
For NC State staff and faculty only. Take a BREAK from workday stress to MAKE something creative and fun at The Crafts Center this semester! Register for one or more sessions!
Class fee: $25 per session, all supplies included
Registration for these classes will open at 3:00pm for students (April 1) and for the public (April 8).
Session A – Hot Glass Beads
Play with fire! Learn to use the lampwork torches to make colorful glass beads.

Session B – Turned Wood Ice Cream Scoop
Come learn how to use a wood lathe and turn your very own custom wooden ice cream scoop for all the Howling Cow you’ll be enjoying!

Session C – Poppies in Watercolor
Learn fun watercolor techniques while painting vibrant red poppies.
Thursday, June 13, 11:30am – 1:30pm
Session D – Enameled Copper Pendant
Come ‘play’ with fire while learning to apply powdered glass to metal. In this short session, get a quick, hands-on lesson in basic hot enameling.
Thursday, June 20, 11:30am – 1:30pm
Session E – Turned Wood Bottle Stopper
Come learn how to use a wood lathe and turn your very own custom wooden bottle opener. It’s good for gifts and a great addition to your kitchenware.
Friday, June 21,12:00 – 3:00pm
Session F – Handbuilding Clay Planters
Learn basic handbuilding techniques and design your very own clay planter. Students can embellish clay slab surfaces with stamps or texture mats then carefully assemble by scoring, slipping, and compressing. Pieces will be fired in the Crafts Center’s gas kiln and available for pick up 3 – 4 weeks after the class session!
Friday, June 28, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Session G – Pottery Wheel
Try your hands at the potter’s wheel while making a clay bowl or cup during this fun activity! Pick your favorite piece to be glazed and finished in the Crafts Center’s gas kiln and available for pick up 3 – 4 weeks after the class session!
Friday, July 12, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Session H – Fused Glass
Create unique designs by cutting and layering fusible glass into various patterns and shapes. Fire in a kiln to fuse [melt] the glass into one piece to create an ornament or suncatcher or slump-fuse into a mold to make a small plate or trinket dish.
