For NC State students only. Don’t have time to commit to a full-length crafts class? Come join us for an afternoon of fun and learning! Register for one or more sessions.

Class fee: $15 per session, all supplies included      

Session A – Simple Charcuterie Board: Use a variety of woodshop machines and hand tools to create a unique custom cutting board great for serving or cutting food.
Friday afternoon 12-3 pm, September 2 

Session B – Pendulum Pour Paintings: Spend an afternoon swinging paint from the ceiling and letting loose on canvas and poster board! Students are encouraged to bring additional items to paint on [canvas, tee shirt, mug, wood, etc.] and should come to class prepared to get really messy! Friday afternoon 4-7 pm, September 2

Session C – Beaded Bangle: Need to relax at the end of the week?  If so, spend an afternoon using basic metalsmith techniques and wire-wrapping to craft this beaded bangle.  The sky is the limit with what you can wrap into your designs! Saturday afternoon 1-4 pm, September 9 

Crafternoons - Hot Glass Beads

Session D – Hot Glass Beads: Learn to use the lampworking torches to make colorful glass beads. Friday afternoon 4-7 pm, September 9

Session E – Turned Wood Pen: Come learn how to use a wood lathe and turn your very own custom wooden twist pen! Start with a block of beautiful hardwood and learn how to shape, sand, finish and assemble a one-of-a-kind handmade twist pen! Friday afternoon 1:30-4:30 pm, September 9 

Session F– Cell Phone Stand: Use a variety of woodshop machines and hand tools to create a unique stand for your cell phone. Friday afternoon 1:30 – 4:30 pm, September 16 

Session G – Enameled Copper Pendant and Earrings: Come ‘play’ with fire while learning to apply powdered glass to metal. In this short session, get a quick, hands-on lesson in basic hot enameling. Friday afternoon, 4-7 pm, September 16

Session H – Beaded Barrettes: Spend an afternoon using your creative side to blend together different shades and styles to make beaded barrettes.  These go great alone or in pairs, and with a variety of wardrobes. Friday afternoon 4-7 pm, September 23 

Session I – Fused Glass: Create unique designs by cutting and layering fusible glass into various patterns and shapes. Fire in a kiln to fuse [melt] the glass into one piece to create an ornament or suncatcher or slump-fuse into a mold to make a small plate or trinket dish.

Session J – Instax Mini Accordion Books: Take your instant photography to the next level and learn to make an accordion photo book using everyday household items! Instax mini photos will be provided but students are welcomed to bring in additional instant photos to add a more personal touch to their piece. Friday afternoon 4-6 pm, November 4

Session K – Stained Glass: Foil and solder using the copper foil method of stained glass to create a simple suncatcher or holiday ornament. Friday afternoon, 4-7 pm, November 11

Session L – Watercolor – Fall Leaves: Learn fun watercolor techniques while painting colorful fall leaves. Friday afternoon, 4-7 pm, November 11

Session M – Pottery Wheel: Try your hands at the potters wheel while making a clay bowl or cup during this fun crafternoon activity! Students will pick their favorite piece to be glazed and finished in the Crafts Center’s gas kiln! Friday afternoon, 4-7 pm, November 11

Session N – Handbuilding with Clay: Learn basic handbuilding techniques and design your very own coffee mug or bowl! Students will roll slabs, embellish surfaces with stamps or texture mats then carefully assemble by scoring, slipping, and compressing. Pieces will be fired in the Crafts Center’s gas kiln! Friday afternoon, 4-7 pm, November 11

Most of our classes fill quickly so there is often a wait list. Late notice cancellations require considerable processing and labor to try and fill the reserved seat. Therefore, cancellations under 10 days are not able to be refunded unless we can fill the space.
• If cancellation occurs 10 or more days prior to the start of a class, a processing charge of 25% of the registration payment or $25 (whichever is less) will be assessed and the remainder refunded.
• If cancellation occurs less than 10 days prior to the start of a class, a refund cannot be issued unless the space can be filled. If the space is able to be filled, a 50% refund of  payment will be issued.
If you find you need to cancel out of a class you have registered for, you must drop the class via Reporter», our new online registration system

Cancellation requests will not be accepted at the main desk or via phone or email.


To receive an optimal experience and get the most out of the class, attendance is important as there are no provisions for make-up sessions for missed classes.

Wait Lists

Names are accepted on waiting lists via Reporter» after a class is full until the day the class begins.  Wait lists are only valid for the current semester’s class – wait lists are not carried over to the next semester.
