Giving
Why give?
As one of the largest craft-focused arts programs at any university, the Crafts Center at NC State provides a vital service to the university and general public. As a rich resource of hands-on, immersive, life-long learning skills, the Crafts Center works to enhance the creative, professional, and personal lives of NC State students and beyond.
The Crafts Center relies mainly on student fees and private donations for funding our operations. Your gifts enable the Crafts Center to continue to grow and enhance our programming.
With additional funding, the center could:
- Reach more students in all disciplines
- Provide valuable career-track instruction in the latest technologies
- Support and provide instruction for developing lifelong skill sets
- Create a makerspace that fuses old and new ways of making and leads the way for prototyping/designing
Terwilligers craft generous gifts for NC State University
“Even when we lived up on the Virginia border, I would come into town every once in a while just to make some sawdust,” remarked Eric Terwilliger, as he reminisced about his time at the NC State University Crafts CenterThink and Do the Extraordinary
The Campaign for NC State
The Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign is the most ambitious fundraising effort in the history of NC State, with a goal of $1.6 billion in private support from the university’s remarkable alumni and friends. Meeting this goal will allow NC State to achieve its potential as one of the most vital and prestigious research universities on the planet. To date, more than $15.1 million has been raised for the arts on campus, but there is more work to be done.
All gifts made to the Crafts Center count toward the Campaign. Before the campaign concludes in 2021, we are asking supporters like you to help us move the Crafts Center at NC State forward by funding strategic priorities including:

Equipment and technology
In order for the Crafts Center to grow and meet the demands of next-generation and digitally literate students and patrons, it must maintain and improve its equipment and facilities. While the center is historically steeped in traditional craft, the addition of a digital media makerspace would not only position the Crafts Center as the largest makerspace on campus – it would provide a much broader offering of classes and resources for students of all ages. Donors make this possible.
Artist residencies
Artist residencies allow students and artists to learn from one another and to create together in sustained, immersive ways. Arts NC State programs actively work with professional artists who are passionate about both creating and teaching. They engage our entire community, forging unforgettable partnerships between NC State and the worldwide community of artists. These experiences can only become regular parts of Arts NC State’s programming through significant investments of private support.
Annual support
Every gift, no matter its size, makes a difference in the lives of students at NC State University. Because annual gifts are typically used soon after they are received, we depend on ongoing support from alumni, parents, and community members. Annual giving is your opportunity to influence the future of the Crafts Center, year after year.
