Fabrication I: Beginner Mold-Making & Concrete Casting

Fabrication I introduces you to the hands-on world of mold-making and concrete and advanced concrete casting. Through guided beginner-friendly projects, you’ll explore the essential steps of the process, constructing simple molds, mixing and pouring concrete, and finishing your cast pieces. Working from pre-prepared digital models, you’ll focus on technique, safety, and craftsmanship while creating small-scale functional or decorative objects such as planters, trays, or holders.

Students who wish to adapt their own design ideas are welcome to do so, but the emphasis of this class is on learning fabrication fundamentals and gaining confidence in the studio. Demonstrations and short exercises will guide you from start to finish, and practice time outside of class is encouraged to refine your pieces. Completion of this class qualifies you for continued access to fabrication resources and future advanced workshops.
