Surface Decoration [Workshop]
Surface decoration is a wonderful way to take your work to the next level and express your own ideas. In this class, we will cover a wide variety of surface techniques. We will start with treating the background using carving, stamping, sgraffito and inlay techniques on leather-hard greenware. We will then explore surface design using slips, resist, transfer, and brushwork. We will also experiment on relevant glazing techniques to complete your surface design. This class is ideal for students at all levels who want to focus on developing their decorative skills and exploring their personal creative voice. Students should be proficient in basic handbuilding or throwing skills and plan to bring pieces in progress to the workshop. Class fee includes use of slips, washes, and glazes during the workshop.
NOTE: All greenware pieces will be bisque fired, all glaze ware pieces will be glaze fired. These will be available 2-3 weeks after the workshop concludes. Only current studio members or students enrolled in other 6-week courses will be able to glaze their fired bisque ware.
