Focused Forms: Cups
An intermediate level class- basic wheel throwing experience is necessary.
The cup is one of the most common and familiar forms in ceramics, offering an almost endless platform to express your creativity. This class provides students the opportunity to dive in and explore the possibilities within the cup form. Demonstrations and discussion will cover a variety of styles including mugs, tumblers, chalices, and yunomis. Additionally, an emphasis will be placed on the relationship between form + function. A variety of surface treatment techniques will be covered including carving, stamping, inlay, and use of slips. Students will be encouraged to tap into their own creative voice and challenge their assumption of what a cup can be. Practice time outside of class is strongly suggested to finish class projects. Class fee includes one 25 lb. bag of clay.
