Clay and Cork-Combining Materials [Workshop]
This workshop will explore the intersection of clay and cork by introducing students to the process of combining these two materials into cohesive finished pieces. Visiting artist, Jordan Blankenship, will guide you through understanding the versatility and aesthetic potential of incorporating cork elements into ceramic work. In this hybrid style workshop students will meet with Jordan twice, virtually, for introductions, discussion of the process, questions and answers, and sharing works in progress. Students will have time to work on their own between virtual sessions to get their pieces glazed and fired. Then, the workshop culminates with a full day in-person session with Jordan in the Wood Studio where students will learn how to turn cork on a lathe. You will be instructed on how to shape, sand, and finish your custom-fit cork elements. Students will walk away with one of a kind objects and the skills to continue exploring the potential of combining clay and cork. Class fee includes 25 lbs of clay
