Crafts Center 70th Anniversary Student Design Contest

It’s our birthday! Founded in 1954 in the Erdahl-Cloyd Union (west wing) of DH Hill Library, the Crafts Center is excited to be celebrating 70 years!
To commemorate this, we are seeking submissions from our wonderfully talented NC State students to design a T-shirt in honor of this milestone anniversary.

The Crafts Center will produce a limited edition run of shirts and other promotional items to be premiered at our Annual Crafts Fair on November 16th. Any remaining inventory will be sold at our front desk while supplies last.

The winner will receive one of the following rewards:

  • One free class or workshop at the Crafts Center with guaranteed seating
  • Two samples of each item on which the design appears

Deadline for Entries

Submit your designs via email to crafts-center@ncsu.edu by September 30th, 2024 at 11:59pm.

Theme and Message

The design should prominently feature the 70th anniversary of the Crafts Center and incorporate design elements that highlight the various studios and artistic medium taught at the center (Clay, Fiber, Glass,
Jewelry, Lapidary, Mixed Media, Photography, Wood, C:Lab).

The final design will incorporate the NC State Crafts Center brand and signature motto: MAKE IT HERE, by
applying supplied brand assets [in this folder]

Brand Assets

  • Crafts Center emblems and icons
  • MAKE IT HERE logo
  • NC State brand with Crafts Center title
  • These can be combined with illustrations and images.
  • We may consider printing something small on the back collar area.

Colors

Mono-color designs are preferred but we will accept designs with up to three colors and those colors are restricted to red, white, and black using the following colors:

  1. The contest is open to NC State students enrolled in the Fall 2024 semester.
  2. Digital designs should be single-sided.
  3. Design size should fit into 12” x 12” at 300dpi.
  4. Designs should be able to be printed on light AND dark backgrounds [reversed]
  5. By submitting a design for consideration, you confirm that to the best of your knowledge, the design you are submitting is your own original work and that no other persons or parties can claim ownership. Art created using artificial intelligence may not be submitted.
  6. Up to three designs may be submitted per person. 
  7. Designs should be submitted electronically by emailing them to crafts-center@ncsu.edu.
  8. Original design files should be labeled with your first and last name. If you are submitting more than one design please add a 1, 2 or 3 to your file name. (Ex. LastName_FirstName_2).
  9. Please submit all Ai, EPS, JPG, and PDF’s with your design layers intact. 
  10. Hard copies of hand-drawn art are not acceptable.

Final designs will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • How well the design/slogan reflects the spirit and brand of the Crafts Center at NC State University.
  • Whether the design/slogan centers the Crafts Center’s 70th anniversary.
  • Whether the design/slogan is modern, powerful and unique.
