Policies and Procedures

  • Membership to the Crafts Center entitles members full access to special events and their studio of choice during open hours and when a class is not in session.
  • You must be 18 or older, or a currently enrolled NC State student, and have health insurance to use the studio.
  • First time users must complete an orientation before purchasing a membership. To schedule a studio orientation, contact the appropriate studio manager listed on our staff page.
  • To receive an optimal experience and get the most out of the class, attendance is important as there are no provisions for make-up sessions for missed classes.

Find the class you want to take under Classes & Workshops on this website and use the “Register for this class»” link for each specific class/workshop.

OR

REPORTER is NC State’s Registration Platform for Non-Credit Activity and Required Training (REPORTER)

NC State students and employees may access REPORTER via their Unity ID. Everyone else will need to set up a guest account prior to registering. (Note: if you are using Safari as your browser you may experience some difficulty registering via REPORTER. Try clearing your cookies or using another browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox.)

We understand that REPORTER is not an easy website for beginners to navigate. If you experience difficulty after reading the help pages, please contact the Crafts Center for assistance.

Each class is designed specifically for a designated level of experience.

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AN INTERMEDIATE or ADVANCED COURSE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED PREREQUISITE EXPERIENCE.

In considering whether to become a member, please take into consideration that we are a teaching center first. Our primary mission is to focus on NC State students (as student fees pay for this Center) and also to provide a location for students of all ages to learn and grow as makers.

Memberships must be purchased at the Crafts Center and may be paid for via cash, check, or credit card.

We strongly discourage the use of a studio membership solely for mass production purposes that would supply a personal business as this could adversely impact the needs of those in classes and workshops.

Please note that memberships are not available for Mixed Media as it is a multi-purpose studio used for multiple classes.

Payment for classes and workshops are accepted online by major credit card.

Dates, times and instructors of classes are subject to change. In the event a change to the class schedule needs to be made, you will be notified via email and/or by phone.

Most of our classes fill quickly so there is often a wait list. Late notice cancellations require considerable processing and labor to try and fill the reserved seat. Therefore, cancellations under 10 days are not able to be refunded unless we can fill the space.

  • If cancellation occurs 10 or more days prior to the start of a class, a processing charge of 25% of the registration payment or $25 (whichever is less) will be assessed and the remainder refunded.
  • If cancellation occurs less than 10 days prior to the start of a class, a refund cannot be issued unless the space can be filled. If the space is able to be filled, a 50% refund of payment will be issued.
  • If you find you need to cancel out of a class you have registered for, you must do so by via the Course Drop option in Reporter
  • Cancellation requests will not be accepted at the main desk or via phone or email
  • The refund will be issued to the same credit card used for original payment; allow 2 – 10 business days for the credit to post to your account.

If you have questions regarding cancellations, please contact the Crafts Center by phone 919.515.2457 or by e-mail crafts-center@ncsu.edu.

If a class is filled at time of registration, add your name to the waitlist via Reporter» in case a space becomes available or the waitlist becomes long enough for us to possibly add another class. Wait lists are only valid for the current semester’s class – wait lists are not carried over to the next semester.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, NC State will honor requests for reasonable accommodations made by individuals with disabilities. Requests can be served more effectively if notice is provided at least 10 days before the event. Direct accommodation requests to Crafts Center director Carol Fountain Nix.

At this time, supplies related to current classes and studio will continue to be sold over the counter at the center’s Information Desk. We accept cash, checks, and money orders. Checks should be payable to NC State University. Checks returned by a bank for any reason will incur a $25 returned check fee.

Classes are available in varying session lengths as an ongoing study in a specific studio. Students will only have access to the studio for the duration of the class to practice during the timeframe in which the class is being conducted. Certain classes (not Workshops) provide participants options to utilize a PunchCard and/or purchase a ClassPass:

PunchCard can be utilized for three additional studio visits after the class has ended to complete [only] projects started in class. The card will be made available on the last day of class.

ClassPass is offered for designated classes and extends studio access beyond the actual time frame of the class. Students enrolled in second session continuing classes [meaning halfway or more through the semester] will be able to purchase a ClassPass to utilize prior to the start of class – pending enrollment verification.

Occasionally, classes will be offered completely online via Zoom*. The class Zoom link will be emailed to registrants prior to the start of class. Instructions regarding class supplies are provided in the class description.

If you are not familiar with ZOOM, check out this Zoom Tutorial ahead of time so you’ll be familiar with how to participate in a Zoom session.
