Glass Classes

Summer session is just around the corner! Mark your calendars – Registration for NC State students begins on Monday, April 17, at 9:00 a.m. and registration for everyone else begins on Monday, April 24, at 9:00 a.m. 

Registration links will become active on the repective registration dates for each group.


Beyond Basic Flat Glass

Instructor: Deborah Rodgers

Push yourself to learn more about the art of stained glass! Explore advanced construction and soldering techniques to create a challenging 2-D panel or a 3-D project. The class fee covers use of studio tools and supplies such as flux, patina, and polishing compound. You must purchase your own glass, solder, and foil.

Thursdays [6 weeks] June 1 – July 13 [skips June 22]: 6:30 – 9:30pm  

  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Prerequisites: Students must have completed the Crafts Center’s Introduction to Stained Glass class.

Chandelier Windchimes [Workshop]

Instructor: Deborah Rodgers

Use stained glass, fused glass, and lampwork glass beads (optional) to combine into a charming and colorful glass mobile or windchime. Pattern to be provided by instructor. All supplies included.

Glass in the Garden: Round Garden Stake [Workshop]

Instructor: Deborah Rodgers

Add some sparkle to your home or landscape with a beautiful garden stake consisting of a round stained-glass panel with a custom-made metal stand. Perfect for your garden or a large potted plant. Make the stained-glass panel (from a pattern provided by the instructor) in colors of your choice and then learn to make the metal mounting frame and stake. This is not a beginner level class.

Hot Glass Beads: An Introduction to Lampworking

Instructor: Kathy Driggers

Come spend a weekend learning to make glass beads using a torch and rods of glass. Learn to make a variety of beads that can be used to make an item of jewelry or some decorative piece for your home. This class will teach you the basics in glass bead making such as dot placement, how to shape beads, how to encase a bead in transparent glass, and most importantly heat control of your glass. This is a beginner’s class, but even seasoned bead makers can learn from a review of the basics

Introduction to Glass Fusing & Slumping

Instructor: Jo Ellen Westmoreland

Intro to Glass Fusing & Slumping

An introductory level class – no experience necessary. Learn the basics of fusing and forming glass in a kiln. Projects include making small plates, bowls, soap dishes, tiles and jewelry. Create designs with both transparent and opaque glass in a range of colors!  Class fee includes glass and use of tools to create class projects.

Introduction to Stained Glass

Instructor: Deborah Rodgers

Add some color to your world! Learn to cut, foil, and solder a 6” x 14” stained glass panel using the copper foil method. Pattern will be provided by the instructor. The class fee includes glass and materials to make one panel. Attendance at the first two class sessions is mandatory. Please do not register for this class if you are unable to attend both of the first two classes.

Section A : Tuesdays [6 weeks] May 30 – July 18 [skip June 20 & July 4]: 10:00am – 1:00pm*
Section B : Tuesdays [6 weeks] May 30 – June 27 [skip June 20 & July 4]: 6:30 – 9:30pm

Cancellations

Most of our classes fill quickly so there is often a wait list. Late notice cancellations require considerable processing and labor to try and fill the reserved seat. Therefore, cancellations under 10 days are not able to be refunded unless we can fill the space.
• If cancellation occurs 10 or more days prior to the start of a class, a processing charge of 25% of the registration payment or $25 (whichever is less) will be assessed and the remainder refunded.
• If cancellation occurs less than 10 days prior to the start of a class, a refund cannot be issued unless the space can be filled. If the space is able to be filled, a 50% refund of  payment will be issued.
If you find you need to cancel out of a class you have registered for, you must drop the class via Reporter», our new online registration system

Cancellation requests will not be accepted at the main desk or via phone or email.

Absences

To receive an optimal experience and get the most out of the class, attendance is important as there are no provisions for make-up sessions for missed classes.

Wait Lists

Names are accepted on waiting lists via Reporter» after a class is full until the day the class begins.  Wait lists are only valid for the current semester’s class – wait lists are not carried over to the next semester.
