CELLULOSE CLAY SCULPTURE [Workshop]

Instructor: Greg Carter

On the first Saturday you will:

  • Build the skeleton/base of the sculpture using foam and tape, or a stuffed animal and tape. (Tape is used to compact and stabilize the shape while the cellulose clay is drying.)
  • Mix and apply cellulose clay. Your sculpture will then be allowed to dry out between class sessions.

On the second Saturday you will:

  • Sand and then decorate the surface of your sculpture.

Note: You may use the studio by appointment during the days between class sessions*.
Studio memberships, Punch Cards and Class Passes are not available for the Mixed Media Studio. To use the studio for screeprinting after the class has ended you must reserve the room and pay the hourly fee for use of the studio.

MODERN CALLIGRAPHY

Have you ever wished you could do some simple hand lettering for a special occasion – name cards, gift tags, labels, or greeting cards? In this class, you will learn to do just that AND make your own customized items! You will come away with new calligraphy skills and a wide assortment of product ideas you can use for holidays and special occasions. This is a fun class and a great introduction to the world of calligraphy

ENCAUSTIC MERMAID PAINTING [Workshop]

Instructor: Marcia Streithorst

Join encaustic artist Marcia Streithorst as she teaches you all about encaustic painting while walking you through the steps to craft your very own beautiful mermaid painting. You will paint on a wood birch panel using encaustic medium (e.g. wax with resin) and a heat gun. In this workshop you will learn how to safely use encaustic supplies. You will also learn how to get a smooth or textured surface and how to embed other mixed media materials in your work. You will walk away with your small completed painting. A materials fee of $20 is payable to the instructor on the day of the workshop. This workshop is suited for all skill levels.

INTRODUCTION TO SILKSCREEN PRINTING

Instructor: Dominick Rapone
Learn the basics of silkscreen and produce two to three prints by the end of class. The fundamentals of silkscreen printing include separations, coating, registration, proper printing techniques, and terminology. Learn about the process and history of silkscreen printing both as an expressive and as a graphic art form. Explore hand-drawn, photographic, photocopied and digital color separation techniques. The class will focus on individual projects that you are interested in. Use water based inks to print on various materials such as paper, fabric, glass, metal and wood. Learn how to print with their screens using a squeegee, apply emulsion to the screen with a scoop coater, shoot and wash out your images, mix color, and make editions of prints. Sufficient supplies needed to learn/practice the basic skills during class are included; however, if you desire to print large quantities of your designs or practice between classes, you will need to supply some of your own paper and inks for printing (more on this will be discussed during the first class session). LEATHER JOURNALS [Workshop]

Hemingway was never without his. Frida Kahlo’s are widely reproduced. Make your very own leather journal and learn to do leather sewing, dyeing, and stamping to personalize to your taste. Using a premium 6″ x 8″ journal with acid-free, archival paper you will create a leather cover that is reusable for many journals in the future! Your legacy secured! Supplies included.

MONO – PRINTING 101 [Workshop]

Instructor: Maureen Seltzer
In this wildly creative and playful class, you will learn to make prints using found objects for texture and image, layered paints for varied colors, and a mask [an image cutout] to create multiple exciting prints! Use an 8″ x 10″ gel printing press and a variety of tools and materials, including upcycling papers from books, maps, and music sheets to print onto. PAINTING DAYLILIES IN WATERCOLOR [Workshop]

No experience necessary. Learn the basics of watercolor as you paint vibrant daylilies. Create this painting with the blending of transparent watercolors while layering washes and adding glazes to produce rich colors. RELIEF PRINTING

Woodcut, Linoleum and Monoprint. This class is open to all; no prior experience required. You will produce two to three prints by the end of the 6-week period. Explore relief printing using techniques in Linoleum, scroll saw woodcut, color reduction woodcut and monoprint and learn about the process and history of relief printing both as an expressive and as a graphic art form. WATERCOLOR SUNFLOWERS [Workshop]

No experience necessary. With their imposing height and large, bold leaves and flower heads, sunflowers are wonderful painting subjects. Come join this workshop and learn to paint the dramatic, Great Plains native: the sunflower!
