Beginner’s Watercolor

Instructor: Laura Azzi

For beginners only. Learn the basics of watercolor painting, from brush strokes to color mixing to applying water media paint. Color theory and composition will also be covered. Come and express your creative self through watercolor for relaxation and enjoyment. You are responsible for providing some of their own supplies and will receive a supply list two weeks prior to class. [Expect to pay $20 – $35 for supplies at a local art supply store.]

Copperplate Calligraphy

Instructor: Jessica Yee

Learn the origins of copperplate calligraphy to create classic and modern script lettering. You will be provided with all the tools needed, guidelines for practice, and supplies needed to learn how to create basic letterforms, including flourishing. Copperplate is elegant and can be modernized for a wide variety of script styles. All supplies included.

Encaustic Beachscape [Workshop]

Instructor: Marcia Streithorst

Join encaustic artist Marcia Streithorst as she teaches you all about encaustic painting while walking you through the steps to craft your very own Seascape painting. You will paint on a wood birch panel using an encaustic medium (e.g., wax with resin) and a heat gun. In this workshop you will learn how to safely use encaustic supplies. You will also learn how to get a smooth or textured surface and how to embed shells and other mixed media materials in your work. Students will walk away with their completed 6×6 painting. A materials fee of $20 is payable to the instructor on the day of the workshop. This workshop is suited for all skill levels.

Gilding [Workshop]

Instructor: Jessica Yee

All that glitters is not gold but in this class yes, it is! Want to level up your art by adding real 23K gold leaf to your artwork. We will create a modern illuminated letter, while learning techniques of debossing gold, flat and raised gilding and varied adhesion techniques. You will leave with a gilded modern illuminated letter. Supplies included.

Uncial Calligraphy

Want to learn calligraphy? Uncial is a simple script to get you started on your calligraphy journey. In three classes you will learn the foundations of this script and master the tools to create wonderful pieces for friends and family. The beauty of learning this script is that it has one case and uses the already natural movements we have mastered while learning to write. Supplies included.

Introduction to Silkscreen Printing

Instructor: Dominick Rapone

Learn the basics of silkscreen and produce two to three prints by the end of class. The fundamentals of silkscreen printing include separations, coating, registration, proper printing techniques, and terminology. Learn about the process and history of silkscreen printing both as an expressive and as a graphic art form. Explore hand-drawn, photographic, photocopied and digital color separation techniques. The class will focus on individual projects that you are interested in. Use water based inks to print on various materials such as paper, fabric, glass, metal and wood. Learn how to print with their screens using a squeegee, apply emulsion to the screen with a scoop coater, shoot and wash out your images, mix color, and make editions of prints. Sufficient supplies needed to learn/practice the basic skills during class are included; however, if you desire to print large quantities of your designs or practice between classes, you will need to supply some of your own paper and inks for printing (more on this will be discussed during the first class session). Please wear old/dirty clothes to work in.

Note: You may use the studio by appointment during the days between class sessions*. Studio memberships, Punch Cards and Class Passes are not available for the Mixed Media Studio. To use the studio for screeprinting after the class has ended you must reserve the room and pay the hourly fee for use of the studio.

Leather Journals [Workshop] 

Leather Journals

Instructor: Gina Fry
Hemingway was never without his. Frida Kahlo’s are widely reproduced. Make your very own leather journal and learn to do leather sewing, dyeing, and stamping to personalize to your taste. Using a premium 6″ x 8″ journal with acid-free, archival paper you will create a leather cover that is reusable for many journals in the future! Your legacy secured! Supplies included.

Relief Printing

Instructor: Dominick Rapone

Woodcut, Linoleum and Monoprint. This class is open to all, no prior experience required. You will produce two to three prints by the end of the 6-week period. Explore relief printing using techniques in Linoleum, scroll saw woodcut, color reduction woodcut and monoprint and learn about the process and history of relief printing both as an expressive and as a graphic art form. The class will focus on individual projects that you are interested in. Learn how to print with a press and by hand. Use oil based inks to print on various papers and fabric and make individual prints as well as editions.

Watercolor Techniques [Workshop]

Use what you have learned in Beginning Watercolor class to advance your skills. You will learn techniques with watercolor pencils, palette knife, salt, masking, and unique brush techniques as well as how to create beautiful skies, water and shadowing. You will also expand your knowledge on color mixing and painting wet-into-wet,

Winter Landscape in Watercolor [Workshop]

No experience necessary. Learn how to paint charming fall No experience necessary. Enjoy painting a simple winter landscape in watercolor. Use the creative process of the watercolor medium to create a chilly landscape through textures and techniques. Cancellations

Most of our classes fill quickly so there is often a wait list. Late notice cancellations require considerable processing and labor to try and fill the reserved seat. Therefore, cancellations under 10 days are not able to be refunded unless we can fill the space.
• If cancellation occurs 10 or more days prior to the start of a class, a processing charge of 25% of the registration payment or $25 (whichever is less) will be assessed and the remainder refunded.
• If cancellation occurs less than 10 days prior to the start of a class, a refund cannot be issued unless the space can be filled. If the space is able to be filled, a 50% refund of  payment will be issued.
If you find you need to cancel out of a class you have registered for, you must drop the class via Reporter», our new online registration system

Cancellation requests will not be accepted at the main desk or via phone or email.

Absences

To receive an optimal experience and get the most out of the class, attendance is important as there are no provisions for make-up sessions for missed classes.

Wait Lists

Names are accepted on waiting lists via Reporter» after a class is full until the day the class begins.  Wait lists are only valid for the current semester’s class – wait lists are not carried over to the next semester.
