Slip Decoration Workshop (Summer 2025)

This class will focus on using slip decoration techniques to enhance your ceramic surfaces. Contrasting or colored slips will be used for inlay as well as newspaper transfers allowing for detailed decoration. Brushstrokes, finger marks, and tool movements will be rendered on your work’s surface in textured slip to capture motion. Tape resist, wax resist, and stains will bring out surface details. Hands-on experience in a variety of techniques give a foundation for diving deeper into the world of slip decoration. Students should plan to bring at least 4 smooth surfaced leather hard pieces to the workshop to make the most of the class.

All pieces will be bisque fired after the workshop. Glaze firing is not included except for current clay studio members or students enrolled in a 6-week class.
