Can You Handle It? A Handle Making Workshop

Making handles can be a challenge! The handles may not feel right on the pot as are often rushed and overlooked. This 2-day weekend workshop will walk students through the steps for making and attaching handles. You will be encouraged to consider form, scale, and texture when designing handles for your work. The main technique used in the workshop will be pulling the handles off the pots. We will start with handles on mugs and small jars on day 1 and move to more challenging and larger forms such as pitchers and casseroles on day 2. This workshop is hands-on, and the goal is for you to develop your own handles to match the pots you make.
You are encouraged to bring pieces in progress, such as mugs, jars, and pitchers in various sizes, to work with while experimenting with the different handle making techniques. All pieces from the workshop will be bisque fired. Glaze firing is available for current studio members or students enrolled in a 6-week class during the fall semester. Clay is available for purchase AND only clay purchased from the Crafts Center will be glaze fired.
