Beginning Crochet:
Make a Shoulder Bag
Instructor: Taylor Newell

Learn the basics of crochet to make your very own shoulder bag! You will learn the basic techniques including chain, single crochet, slip stitch, and how to read a pattern. Materials will need to be purchased before the first day of class. A supply list will be provided 2 weeks prior to the first day of class. (Expect to spend about $12 – $20 depending on your choice of brands.) Practice yarn will be provided by the Crafts Center.

Beginning Knitting
Instructor: Claude Bolger

Basic techniques include cast on, knit, purl, binding off, shaping, basic finishing, and information about types of tools, materials, and pattern resources. Students may progress at their own speed. Advanced techniques will be taught, and projects chosen based on individual interest and skill level. For beginners – a materials fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at first class which includes yarn for a simple project and yarn needles. Practice yarn will be provided by the Crafts Center.

Botanical Embroidery:
An Introduction to Contemporary Embroidery [Workshop]
Instructor: Patrizia Ferreira

Learn to translate a pencil sketch into a full blown, luscious, three -dimensional, tactile textile piece entirely created with thread and yarn. You will learn traditional embroidery stitches while employing an untraditional approach to embroidery. Please bring your own 6-inch embroidery hoop to class.

Continuing Crochet: Granny Squares!

Come learn all about granny squares – the basic traditional granny square, and some unique variations! You will also learn how to connect granny squares in a layout to create your own products, like a tote bag. You will need to purchase your own materials. Practice yarn will be provided, but you will need at least your crochet hook (5.5 mm/US I) on the first day of class.A supply list will be provided 2 weeks prior to the first day of class.

Fabric Jewelry [Workshop]
Instructor: Roberta Morgan

Make fun necklaces, bracelets or pins using recycled tie-dyed T-shirts. When cut, rolled and glued into colorful shapes they are transformed into unique jewelry. This is a fun and easy way to up-cycle. We will also use this technique with strips of recycled wool fabric. All supplies provided.

Introduction to Japanese Shibori [Workshop]
Instructor: Patrizia Ferreira

Immerse yourself in the technique of Japanese Shibori. Learn to tie and fold your fabric in myriad ways to achieve unique patterns. Come with a white cloth (cotton, linen, or other natural fiber only – no synthetics) and leave with beautiful, rich, deep indigo patterns on cloth. No prior experience necessary.

Introduction to Sewing
Instructor: Roberta Morgan

Start sewing! Learn about selecting fabric, reading the printed pattern, laying out and cutting fabric, and using a sewing machine to make a simple garment. You will be learning to sew garments starting with an apron or skirt. If you have a pattern bring it, or you can purchase one before the second class along with the necessary supplies [thread, zipper, pins, etc.] to make it. The Crafts Center has a selection of donated fabric you can choose from or you can bring your own fabric. Bring your own machine or learn on one of ours.

Jumbo Yarn Blanket [Workshop]

Make a super cozy throw blanket with nothing but your own hands! Bulky weight yarn will be provided in limited colors (red, white, and black – Go PACK!) but can also be purchased at local craft stores. If you prefer to purchase yarn of a different color, 4-5 skeins will be needed.

Needle Felting [Workshop]
Instructor: Roberta Morgan

Learn the craft of needle felting by making a bold and colorful 2″ wide cuff bracelet or brooch. The craft of needle felting is the process of embedding colorful wool roving into a foundation fabric using barbed needles that snag the fibers. Beads and buttons are added and Ultrasuede® provides a comfortable backing. Once you learn this fun and easy process, you will discover that it can be used to enhance clothing or home decor. All supplies will be provided by the instructor.

Weaving on a Floor Loom – Beginning Weaving
Instructor: Maggie Inman

Learn to weave on the Crafts Center’s new Schacht Baby Wolf looms! You will first be introduced to reading a simple weaving draft. After discussing the interaction of weaving colors together, and planning out a scarf project, you will then select from various color choices and patterns to design your own scarf out of rayon and/or cotton. Learn to use a warping board to measure your project and how to dress the loom with the warp. Enough yarn will be provided to practice weaving mechanics and try out some different colors and patterns before weaving the scarf. If you have previously taken the Beginning Weaving on a Floor Loom class at the Craft Center, and want to continue learning, please can come prepared with a project in mind and weave the equivalent of two scarves.
Everyone learns and works at a different pace. If you get behind between classes or are unable to fully complete your project during the class time allotted, the loom will be available for you to catch up or finish your project during the regular hours of the Crafts Center through the date listed for the specific class section listed below. Class fee includes materials and equipment for creating the class project and personal use of a loom for the time specified after the class ends.

Cancellations
Most of our classes fill quickly so there is often a wait list. Late notice cancellations require considerable processing and labor to try and fill the reserved seat. Therefore, cancellations under 10 days are not able to be refunded unless we can fill the space.
• If cancellation occurs 10 or more days prior to the start of a class, a processing charge of 25% of the registration payment or $25 (whichever is less) will be assessed and the remainder refunded.
• If cancellation occurs less than 10 days prior to the start of a class, a refund cannot be issued unless the space can be filled. If the space is able to be filled, a 50% refund of payment will be issued.
If you find you need to cancel out of a class you have registered for, you must drop the class via Reporter», our new online registration system
Cancellation requests will not be accepted at the main desk or via phone or email.
Absences
To receive an optimal experience and get the most out of the class, attendance is important as there are no provisions for make-up sessions for missed classes.
Wait Lists
Names are accepted on waiting lists via Reporter» after a class is full until the day the class begins. Wait lists are only valid for the current semester’s class – wait lists are not carried over to the next semester.
