Raku Firing [Workshop]
Raku pottery is primarily for decorative artwork, resulting in smoky black and/or metallic surfaces that are ready to take home the day of firing! Horsehair and feather firings will occur along with traditional raku-glazing and firing. An orientation early in the semester will cover topics such as recommended wares for firing, glazing application/schedule, and firing-weekends expectations. There will also be two days scheduled for the instructor to give demonstrations and students to have work time as a group. This workshop is intended for both first time and returning raku-ers to try something new. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of Raku clay, use of terra sigillata, raku glazes, safety equipment and other tools for firing.
NOTE: This workshop requires a clay studio membership to participate.
